Gannon Uses Long Ball to Down Mounties

ERIE, PA – Matt Tamanosky scored 17 of his team-high 18 points in a second half comeback attempt but it wouldn't be enough as Mansfield dropped a 80-67 decision in a PSAC crossover contest to Gannon at the Hammermill Center in Erie Wednesday evening.

Mansfield led early, taking a 9-8 advantage on a 3-pointer by Thomas Moore four minutes into the game.

But Gannon rallied behind Kevin Kuteyi, who scored 16 of the Golden Knight's first 22 points, to take a 22-12 lead on a Kuteyi 3-pointer midway through the first half.

Gannon would continue to use the 3-pointer to close out the first half on a 8-0 run to take a 49-29 lead into intermission.

The Golden Knights would extend their lead to 61-37 five minutes into the second half before Mansfield started to slowly chip away. But despite Tamanosky's second half scoring binge, Mansfield couldn't overcome Gannon's big first half lead.

In addition to his 18 points, Tamanosky pulled down six rebounds. Brad Williams scored 13 points while Moore had 11 points, all of them coming in the first half.

Kuteyi scored a game-high 25 points to lead Gannon with C.J. Asuncion-Byrd adding 19 points.

Gannon outscored Mansfield 38-13 off the bench and the Golden Knights hit 12-of-22 3-pointers.

Mansfield host Misercordia on Saturday afternoon in the final non-conference game of the season.
