FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Kelly Dominates, but Lock Haven Edges Mounties

MANSFIELD –
Brielle Kelly turned in a dominate 30-point performance, but Mansfield came up just short in a 64-62 PSAC East loss to Lock Haven at First Citizens Community Bank Court at Decker Gymnasium.

Kelly connected on 10-15 shots from the floor and was 9-12 from the free throw line to set a new career-high in scoring. The sophomore also grabbed five rebounds.

Tianna Jackson added nine points for the Mounties with
Mary Kate Rumbaugh scoring six points. Rumbaugh was all over the court defensively for Mansfield, blocking four shots.

Lock Haven was led by Lysa Mealing's 15 points. Emily James connected on three 3-pointers on her way to 11 points.

The opening three-and-a-half minutes was a defensive battle with Lock Haven scoring the first point of the game on a Mealing free throw. The Mountaineers responded with Kelly completing a 3-point play. Mansfield jumped out to a 12-4 advantage with just over a minute to play before ending the first quarter with a 12-7 lead.

The Mounties built their lead up to 19-8 over the first two minutes of the second quarter, but Lock Haven used an 11-0 run to tie the game. The Eagles regained the lead and took a 27-23 advantage into halftime.

In the second half, Lock Haven started to pull away, building a 35-26 lead. However, Mansfield outscored its opponent 15-6 to tie the game at the 1:12 mark in the third quarter. The Eagles led 46-43 at the end of the quarter.

Lock Haven jumped out to a seven point lead over the first minute of the fourth and kept it a two-possession game for much of the quarter. Five straight points brought MU within one point at the 3:47 mark.

Back-to-back made free throws by
Katie Fitzpatrick with 47 second remaining in the game closed Mansfield within one point a 61-60. Rachel McDaniel hit the second of two free throws to give the Eagles a two-point cushion before Jackson tied the game at 62-62 with a huge lay-up.

On the ensuing possession, Lock Haven's McKenzie Livingston was fouled driving to the basket with just two seconds. Livingston hit both free throws to give Lock Haven the win.

Mansfield outscored the Eagles in every quarter except the second. Lock haven held a big 49-26 rebounding advantage in the game.

The Mountaineers travel to Shippensburg on Wednesday.
