Big Second Half Run Leads Lakers to Win over MountiesMANSFIELD –
Thomas Moore and
Brad Williams combined for 27 points but Mercyhurst used a big second half run to pull away from Mansfield 92-58 in a PSAC crossover contest Sunday afternoon on First Citizens Community Bank Court in Decker Gymnasium.
The two teams were locked in a tough defensive battle during the first half with the Mountaineers rallying from a game-opening 11-1 deficit to pull to 21-18 on a pair of free throws by
Balla Thiam with just under eight minutes remaining in the first half.
Mercyhurst held a 42-34 advantage at halftime and Mansfield cut the deficit to 46-42 on a 3-pointer by
Gerasimos Koutoufas four minutes into the second half.
But Mercyhurst countered, going on a 36-2 run and holding Mansfield without a field goal over an eleven minute span to put the game out of reach.
Moore scored in double-figures for tenth straight game this season with a team high 15 points while Williams adding 12 points after going 4-5 from the floor.
Matt Tamanosky had 11 points with five rebounds.
Damon Jones topped five Mercyhurst players in double-figures with a game-high 19 points.
Mansfield travels to Gannon on Wednesday.
