Covel Throws Gem, but Mounties Fall to #21 Millersville

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Covel Throws Gem, but Mounties Fall to #21 Millersville

MILLERSVILLE – Alec Covel allowed just four hits and no earned runs in a complete game effort against No. 21 Millersville, but the Mountaineer offense didn't offer much support in a 1-0 PSAC East loss in the opener.

The Marauders won the nightcap 7-0 to sweep the four game series and earn at least a share of the PSAC East title.

In game one, Eric Schanzenbacher hit a one-out single in the top of the first inning before a fielder's choice and error allowed Westyn Baylor to reach and put runners at first and second. However, the threat was neutralized with back-to-back outs.

Millersville scored what proved to be the winning run in the third inning when Tyler Orris drove in A.J. Hammond with a single to right field. Hammond advanced to second on an error earlier in the inning making the run unearned.

Covel allowed just four hits and four walks while striking out four batters in 6.0 innings worked.

Jim McDade earned the complete game, shutout victory for Millersville allowing four hits and striking out one.

In game two, Millersville pushed across three runs in the second inning before adding four more in the third to cruise to the win.

Matt Engler took the loss, allowing four earned runs on 10 hits with six strikeouts. Freshman Jeremy Worlinsky pitched a perfect sixth inning with a strikeout.

Stephen Muscovitch threw a two-hitter with five Ks in 5.0 innings for the victory on the mound.

The Mountaineers host West Chester tomorrow at Shaute Field for the season finale.
