Men’s Basketball Downs Penn State Brandywine 82-66

MANSFIELD – Matt Tamanoksy recorded his third double-double of the season and Thomas Moore was one assist shy of his own double-double in Mansfield's 82-66 win over Penn State Brandywine on Saturday at First Citizens Community Bank Court at Decker Gymnasium.
 
It marked the first victory for interim head coach Pat Zipfel at the helm of the Mountaineer program.

Tamanosky scored a team-high 18 points and grabbed 12 boards while Moore recorded 17 points and nine assists. Eric Lewis Jr. hit three treys on his way to 15 points while Joe Marshall added 13 points.
 
Balla Thiam collected eight rebounds for MU.
 
Cyrie Spencer led Brandywine with a game-high 20 points while Chris Abbonizio came off the bench to score 15 points.
 
The Lions opened the game with a 3-pointer but Mansfield quickly took over and built its lead up to 14 points on a Gerisimos Koutoufas trifecta with 11:51 to play in the first. The Mountaineers maintained a double-digit advantage and jumped out to its biggest lead of the half at 18 points twice. Mansfield took a 43-28 lead into halftime.
 
In the second half, the Mounties gradually built their biggest lead of the game at 23 points with 10:46 to play, but Brandywine got hot and went on a 21-6 run over the next five minutes to close within eight points. The Lions were unable to pull any closer as Mansfield earned its first victory of the season.
 
Mansfield outrebounded its opponent 53-37 and outshot the Lions 49.2% (29-59) to 31.4% (22-70).
 
The Mountaineers travel to Alfred State tomorrow for another non-conference bout.
