Men’s Basketball Comes Up Short at Edinboro

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Men's Basketball Comes Up Short at Edinboro

MANSFIELD – Matt Tamanosky led six Mountaineers in double-figure scoring and Thomas Moore recorded a double-double, but Edinboro came out on top 88-75 Sunday in PSAC crossover play.

Tamanosky totaled 14 points to lead Mansfield offensively while Moore recorded 10 points and 10 assists. Da'Quan Jones hit three treys on his way to 13 points and led the team in rebounding with seven boards. Gerisimos Koutoufas added 12 points with Eric Lewis Jr. and Joe Marshall netting 11 points each.

Henri Wade-Chapman knocked down seven 3-pointers to score a game-high 27 points for Edinboro.

Mansfield led through the early part of the game, but a Wade-Chapman trey and two Fighting Scot free throws allowed Edinboro to take an 8-4 advantage. The Scots led by eight points with 9:03 remaining in the half, but the Mounties chipped away at their deficit and regained the lead at 23-21 on a Moore trifecta three minutes later.

The Scots fought back to take over the lead once again and held a 33-26 advantage with less than a minute to play in the half. However, back-to-back lay-ups by Marshall brought Mansfield within three points at halftime.

In the second half, the Scots opened play with two quick scores to lead by seven, but a pair of lay-ups by Tamanosky and a Jones 3-pointers evened the score at 37. Edinboro took over the lead and jumped out to a 10-point advantage with 11:20 remaining. The Mounties used an 8-2 run to close within four points at 62-58 with 8:23 remaining in the game. However, a comeback win would not be in the cards for MU.

Jones and Koutoufas had big second halves for Mansfield, scoring all but two of their points in the final 20 minutes.

The Mountaineers host Penn State Brandywine on Saturday.
