Mounties Fall at Slippery Rock in PSAC Crossover

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Mounties Fall at Slippery Rock in PSAC Crossover

MANSFIELD – PSAC leading scorer Katie Fitzpatrick recorded a game-high 25 points but it wouldn't be enough as Mansfield fell to Slippery Rock 87-62 Saturday afternoon in PSAC crossover action at Morrow Field House.

Mansfield was held to just 35.8% shooting from the floor with The Rock hitting 56.4% of shots including 8-of-16 from distance.

The game opened with both teams hitting a 3-pointer and a lay-up with Fitzpatrick converting a three point play to give Mansfield a 6-5 advantage. The Rock took the lead with a three point play of their own but it was short lived as Becky Evans hit a trey to give the Mounties the 9-8 lead. The Rock would close out the quarter on a 10-4 run to lead 18-13.

In the second quarter, Mansfield closed within four points twice, but Slippery Rock jumped out to a 38-25 advantage to end the half.

In the second half, a pair of free throws by Fitzpatrick brought Mansfield's deficit down to nine points, but the Mounties would pull no closer.

Fitzpatrick went 7-of-14 from the field and connected on 11-of-12 free throws to lead the Mountaineers offensively. Through the first two games of the season, Fitzpatrick leads the PSAC in scoring, averaging 26.5 points an outing. The senior is just 52 points away from becoming the 16th player in program history to hit the 1,000 point milestone.

Brielle Kelly added 10 points for MU with Evans chipping in seven. Princella McCullough grabbed a game-high eight rebounds.

Lexi Carpenter led four players in double-figure scoring for SRU and was just shy of a double-double with nine assists.
