Box Score 2 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Baseball Splits PSAC East Doubleheader with Lock Haven
LOCK HAVEN, Pa. –
Brandon Miller drove in four runs and scored three to lead Mansfield past Lock Haven 11-9 in game one of a home contest played on the road at Foundation Field Wednesday afternoon. Lock Haven scored in the top of the 7
th of game two for a 7-6 victory.
The doubleheader was a make-up for the originally scheduled contest on April 1.
In the bottom of the first inning of the opener, Miller hit his second home run of the season over the left field fence to put the Mounties on top early. However, Lock Haven's Anthony Kyne answered with a home run of his own to tie things up in the top of the second inning.
The Mountaineers regained the lead again at 3-1 in the bottom of the third inning with Miller scoring from third on a
Westyn Baylor groundout and
Anthony Renz scoring on a
Johnny LeClair triple later in the inning.
The Bald Eagles answered in the next inning once more, this time rallying for four runs to take a 5-3 advantage.
In the bottom of the fourth, Mansfield took advantage of four hits and a pair of errors to score six runs and take a 9-5 lead.
Brandon Miller got the party started with a triple to score
Seth Tressler and
Taylor Hillson before scoring on an error on the next play. LeClair drove in Baylor and
Eric Schanzenbacher with a double to right field then scored on an error by the pitcher.
Hillson led off the fifth with a walk then stole second. The freshman advanced to third on Tressler's single before scoring on a Miller sac fly to put Mansfield up 10-5.
The Eagles cut their deficit to just one run, scoring four runs in the top of the sixth inning.
Marshall Kiessling drove in LeClair in the bottom of the sixth for an insurance run.
Quin Taylor earned the win for Mansfield, going 5.0 innings with eight earned runs, three walks and three strikeouts.
LeClair went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs in the game.
Mansfield opened the scoring in game two with a run in the first and two more in the second to lead 3-0. After reaching on a double, Miller score the first run of the game on a LeClair RBI single.
Wes Custer scored in the second inning on an error by the shortstop before Hillson stole home for the third run.
Lock Haven took its first lead of the game in the top of the third inning, scoring four runs on four hits while stranding one runner. The Eagles scored two more runs in the fifth to take a 6-3 lead.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Mounties cut their deficit to just one run after Baylor and Schanzenbacher both scored on an error in right field. Mansfield scored the tying run in the sixth when Tressler roped a single down the left field line to score Hillson and knot the game at 6-6.
Austin Botts homered to left field in the top of the seventh in what proved to be the game-winning run.
Louis Sick took the loss after tossing 2.1 innings in relief. Starting pitcher
Jeremy Mapstone went 4.2 innings with four earned runs and a strike out.
The Mountaineers return to Shaute Field for senior day against Bloomsburg.
