FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Mounties Edged by #19 Shippensburg 5-4 in Opener; Fall 11-4 in Nightcap

SHIPPENSBURG - Taylor Hillson went 4-for-4 on the day and Johnathan Earnest pitched 4.1 innings of no-hit baseball in game two, but No. 19 Shippensburg came away with two wins on Friday afternoon in the PSAC East opener for both teams. The Raiders escaped with a 5-4 victory in the opener, winning on a walk-off single, before taking game two 11-4.

In game one, Shippensburg (14-3, 2-0 PSAC East) put a pair of runs on the board in the bottom of the first inning then added two more in the second on Michael Douglas' two-run home run.

Mansfield (10-5, 0-2 PSAC East) pushed a run through in the top of the fourth inning when Anthony Renz's RBI single scored Johnny LeClair to trail 4-1.

In the top of the sixth inning, Renz recorded another RBI, this time scoring Eric Schanzenbacher. Mansfield tied the game after Brandon Miller and Scott Rockwell scored following an error after Dave Glueck's single.

Shippensburg opened the bottom of the seventh inning with back-to-back singles to put runners on first and second. In the very next at bat, Jimmy Spanos hit a walk-off single up the middle to end the game.

Hillson went 3-for-3 in the game with Renz and Glueck going 2-for-3 at the plate.

Starting pitcher Quin Taylor settled in nicely after the first two innings, pitching a complete game with six strikeouts and just two walks. With the loss, Taylor moved to 2-2 on the season.

Kyle McClintock earned the win after pitching just the seventh inning.

In the nightcap, Seth Tressler reached on a lead-off single and eventually scored on a Westyn Baylor RBI single to left field to give Mansfield the 1-0 lead early.

Earnest pitched a gem on the mound, throwing 4.1 no-hit innings with five Ks against the nationally ranked program. The senior finished the game with just two hits allowed and three earned runs.

Shippensburg opened the flood gates in the fifth inning, scoring 11 runs on eight hits and an error.

In the sixth, the Mountaineers scored three runs to cut the Ship lead to 11-4. Baylor scored the first on a Brandon Miller single then Marshall Kiessling plated LeClair before Hillson brought in Miller.

Mark Cutis earned the win on the mound for Shippensburg, pitching 6.0 innings with eight hits and three earned runs.

Earnest was tagged with the loss. Josh Patman debuted on the mound with a perfect seventh inning with two strikeouts.

Baylor and Kiessling both went 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI.
