MANSFIELD – Jena Matter ended her outstanding career with a game-high 16 points on Senior Day and Mansfield battled to the end but came up just short in a 63-55 setback to Bloomsburg Saturday afternoon on First Citizens Community Court at Decker Gymnasium Saturday afternoon.

It marked the final game of the season for the Mountaineers and the last contest for Matter, the one senior on the team, at Decker Gymnasium.
The Mountaineers played their hearts out against a Bloomsburg team that clinched the PSAC East Championship with 21-3 overall and 12-3 PSAC East record and ranked No. 16 in NCAA Division II.

Bloomsburg jumped out to a 17-9 lead midway through the first half before Mansfield countered with a 9-0 run over the next three minutes taking a 18-17 lead on a jumper by Alyssa DeRichie. Bloomsburg rallied late in the half to take a 32-24 lead at halftime.

Bloomsburg would extended its lead to as much as 18 points at 55-37 on a 3-pointer by Marla Simmons with a little less than nine minutes to play, but the no quit Mounties kept chipping away at the lead to close to 61-55 on a Katie Fitzpatrick layup with a minute to play.

Mansfield forced 24 Bloomsburg turnovers but shot just 34% from the floor to Bloomsburg's 45.5%. The Huskies also held a 41-31 rebounding advantage.

Matter, who was honored during pregame ceremonies, pulled down a team-best seven rebounds in addition to her 16 points. She finishes her stellar four year career and passed Deb Schneider (1983-84) into 11th place on the all-time scoring list with 1073 points. Her 668 rebounds is eighth best in school history.
