FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Bloomsburg Takes Two from Mounties
BLOOMSBURG – Bryan Morris's complete-game, three-hit shutout led Bloomsburg to a 4-0 victory over Mansfield in the opener before the Huskies took game two 5-3 in a PSAC East doubleheader at Litwhiler Field.
Mansfield drops to 20-23 overall while the Huskies improve to 18-26.
In the opener, after a scoreless first inning Bloomsburg put up a run in the second and third innings before adding a pair of runs in the fourth inning to lead 4-0.
The Mountaineers struggled to get much going offensively, recording just three hits in the contest. Senior
Joey Andrews was responsible for two of Mansfield's three hits with a single in the second and a double in the seventh.
Morris was solid on the mound for the Huskies, tossing his third complete-game effort of the season to earn the complete-game shutout.
Mansfield's
Joe Candelmo took the loss after scattering nine hits and allowing three earned runs. Candelmo struck out four batters with no walks.
In his 60.0 innings of work this season, Candelmo has issued just one walk. The senior currently leads NCAA Division II baseball in walks allowed per nine innings.
In game two, Bloomsburg struck first with a run scored in the bottom of the third inning. Mansfield added a run in the top of the fourth and fifth innings to take a 2-1 advantage, but the Huskies answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth to regain their lead at 3-2.
Mansfield added another run in the top of the sixth, but Bloomsburg put up two more in the bottom of the inning to lead 5-3.
Seth Tressler,
Dylan Woodworth and
Anthony Renz each had a pair of hits in the nightcap to lead the Mounties offensively.
Tyler Hill earned the win in relief for Bloomsburg after pitching the final 1.1 innings.
Jonathan Earnest took the loss for the Mounties.
Brian Almand went 5-for-7 with four runs scored and two RBIs in the doubleheader to lead the Bloomsburg offense.
Mansfield hosts Bloomsburg on Saturday, April 26 for senior day at Shaute Field. First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m.
