MANSFIELD – Anthony Renz's two-run walk-off homer capped a six-run bottom of the seventh inning as the Mountaineer's rallied in dramatic fashion to sweep visiting Clarion Tuesday afternoon at Shuate Field.

Mansfield took game one 6-0 as Quin Taylor  spun his second straight complete-game shutout followed by a thrilling 7-6 victory in the nightcap.

With the PSAC interdivisional sweep, Mansfield improves to 20-21 on the season while Clarion falls to 1-35 overall.

In the opener, Mansfield put up four runs in a big third inning after getting just one runner aboard over the first two innings. Mitchell Iseneker started the inning by singling to right field followed by a Conor Thompson walk. Seth Tressler's single through the left side loaded the bases before Brandon Miller reached on a fielder's choice, scoring Iseneker in the process. Dylan Woodworth hit a one-out single to load the bases before Joey Andrews scored a pair of runners on a double to center field. Renz plated the final run of the inning on a sacrifice fly to right field.

The Mountaineers added a pair of insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take a 6-0 lead over the Golden Eagles. Iseneker scored on a Woodworth sac fly after reaching on a lead-off walk while Tressler scored on a passed ball on a swinging third strike.

Taylor, the reigning PSAC East Pitcher of the Week, dealt another gem on the mound as the junior worked through 7.0 shutout innings. Taylor struck out six batters while scattering seven hits and issuing just one walk. The win marks his fourth of the season.

In the nightcap, Clarion put a run on the board in the top of the first inning and led for most of the game as Mansfield's bats fell silent. The Eagle's starting pitcher Alex Borofski was solid in his longest career outing, allowing six hits in 6.1 innings of work. Borofski struck out three batters while allowing two earned runs.

Clarion added a run in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings before adding two insurance in the top of the seventh to hold a 6-1 advantage over the Mountaineers.

Facing a five-run deficit in the bottom of the final frame, Mansfield looked to make an incredible comeback.

Iseneker lead-off the inning with a fly out to center before Stanton Tentnowski sparked the rally with a double to right field. Thompson's RBI single down the left field line plated Tentnowski to cut the deficit to four runs. Tressler's double and Brandon Miller's walk loaded the bases for Woodworth. A fielding error at first base allowed Woodworth to reach base as Thompson and Tressler hurried home to cut Clarion's lead to 6-4. Andrews followed with a sacrifice fly to center field to score Miller as the Mounties trailed by just one run.

Facing two outs with a runner at third, Renz dug in with Mansfield's hopes riding on the sophomore's shoulders. Renz took the first pitch he saw and blasted it over the left field fence to give Mansfield a thrilling come-from-behind victory.

“I was looking to put the ball in the gap to give Woodworth a chance to score, but I made good contact and gave it a ride” explained Renz.

The round-tripper was Renz's first of the season and fifth career home run for the sophomore third baseman. He was 2-for-3 in the game with three RBIs and a run scored.

Tyler Delval, who came on in relief of Borofski with one out in the seventh, took the loss on the mound.

Clarion's Jordan Mesoraco went 3-for-3 in game two as the Eagles out-hit Mansfield 11-7 in the contest.
