FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Mounties extend win streak to three games with sweep over Penn College

MANSFIELD – Mansfield pounded out 18 hits and got a complete-game three-hitter from Danny Brown in the opener while Matt Fisher hit his second home run in two days in the nightcap to lead Mansfield to a sweep over Penn College in a non-conference doubleheader Sunday afternoon at Shaute Field.

Mansfield won the opener 13-1 behind Brown's 3-hitter and captured the nightcap 5-2.

In the opener, Mansfield scored early and often getting three runs in the bottom of the first with Ernie Ruch driving in two of them with a triple.
The Mountaineers added five more in the second inning with two runs crossing the plate on a single by Stanton Tentnowski and another on an RBI single by Fisher.

Mansfield would increase the lead 10-0 with two runs in the fourth inning on RBI's singles by Max Miller and Johnny LeClair.

Penn College broke up the shutout with a run in the fifth when Travis Hendershot led off the inning with a single and moved to second on a single by Joshua  Longsderff.  Hendershot later scored on a fielder's choice by Craig Watson.

Mansfield put the game away with three runs in the sixth on RBI singles by Bronze Luden and Brandon Miller along with an RBI double from Dylan Woodworth.

Senior Danny Brown was sharp all afternoon on the mound, scattering three hits and striking out four. He issued only one walk while throwing just 82 pitches in the game.

Mansfield's 18 hits were the second most in a game this season. Tentnowski went 4-4 and drove in two runs to top the offense. Brandon Miller

and Dylan Woodworth each had three hits with Woodworth adding two doubles. Anthony Renz also doubled for the Mountaineers.

Zachary Weil doubled for Penn College's only extra-base hit and Zachary Yetter started and took the loss.

In the nightcap, Mansfield's Dan Harms squared off with Joshua Longsderff in a nice pitching duel with neither team able to score in the first three innings.

Penn College got on the board in the fourth when Zachary Buterbaugh led off the inning with a bunt single and moved to second on a sac bunt by Jeremy Rall. Buterbaugh later scored on a single by Zachary Weil.

Mansfield answered with a run to tie the game 1-1 in the bottom half of the inning when Brandon Miller led off with a double and later scored on a sac fly by Fisher.

The Mountaineers got four runs with two outs in the bottom of the fifth with the key blow coming on a two-run home run by Fisher over the centerfield fence.

Harms had a solid outing on the mound to improve to 3-0 on the year. The sophomore scattered four hits over six innings before being relieved in the seventh by Jeremy Mapstone who picked up the save with a perfect inning.

Renz went 3-3 with a double while Miller and Jon Taddeo also doubled. Fisher hit his third home run of the season and drove in three runs.
Joshua Longsderff started and took the loss for Penn College (14-10).

Mansfield extends its winning-streak to three games while improving to 15-19 on the season.

The Mountaineers travel to Lock Haven for a single game on Tuesday.
