FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Gannon Rallies Past Mansfield in Sweep

ERIE – The Golden Knights used a five-run bottom of the seventh to rally past Mansfield 5-4 in the opener before using consistent scoring in a 5-1 victory in game two as Gannon swept the PSAC interdivisional doubleheader Friday afternoon.

Mansfield drops to 12-18 overall while Gannon improves their record to 16-9.

Seth Tressler and Brandon Miller opened game one with back-to-back singles before Dylan Woodworth walked to load the bases. On the very next at bat, senior Joey Andrews laced a two-run single to right-centerfield to bring in Tressler and Miller.

Mansfield added another run in the top of the second inning when Mitch Iseneker, who reached on an error by the shortstop, was plated by Tressler's one-out single to centerfield.

The Mountaineers threatened in the top of the fifth with a pair of runners in scoring position, but both were left stranded after three straight outs.

Bronze Luden drew a lead-off walk to start the sixth inning with Stanton Tentnowski coming in to pinch run. Tentnowski moved over to second on a ground out before scoring on a throwing error by the right fielder to put Mansfield on top 4-0.

Facing a four-run deficit heading into the final inning, Gannon's offense finally came alive. Aaron Cox led-off the inning with a single before Shayne Herold's two-run homer to left cut Mansfield's lead in half. The Knights used three straight hits to add another run and make it a 4-3 game with one out. Dylan Schwegler drew a walk to load the bases before Michael Tomko's walk-off single to centerfield brought in the tying and go-ahead runs for Gannon.

Starting pitcher Joel Worthington threw six scoreless innings while fanning six batters before running into trouble in the seventh. Worthington scattered 10 hits and allowed four earned runs in the no decision.

Jeremy Mapstone took the loss after relieving Worthington with one out in the seventh.

Gannon's Ryan Katelan earned the win in relief after pitching the top of the seventh inning.

Tressler went 3-for-4 in the game with two RBIs and a run scored.

In the nightcap, Mansfield got on the board first after a scoreless opening frame. Fisher reached with a one-out single through the left side and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Tentnowski's single to left scored Fisher to put the Mounties up 1-0.

However, Gannon went on to score a run in each of the next five innings to come away with the victory on their home turf.

Herold earned the complete game win on the mound for the Knights after scattering eight hits while striking out six batters.

Jonathan Earnest took the loss for Mansfield.

The Mountaineers host Gannon Saturday in a doubleheader at Shaute Field. First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m.
