Eckerd Rallies Past Mansfield 6-5 in Final Spring Break Game

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Eckerd Rallies Past Mansfield 6-5 in Final Spring Break Game

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Mansfield held a four-run lead after five innings, but Eckerd scored runs in each of the last four innings to rally past the Mountaineers for the 6-5 win Tuesday night in their final spring break contest.

Bronze Luden broke the scoreless tie in the top of the third inning with his RBI single to right field to plate Dylan Woodworth. Andrew's sacrifice fly to left field brought in Seth Tressler on the ensuing at bat.

In the top of the fifth, Andrews doubled to left center to score Luden all the way from first. Conor Thompson plated Andrews with an RBI single to center field to put the Mountaineers up 4-0.

Eckerd got on the board in the bottom of the inning and scored a run in each of the next two innings to cut its deficit to 4-3 after seven innings.

Anthony Renz added an insurance run for Mansfield when he scored on a Brandon Miller single in the top of the eighth.

In the bottom of the frame, Eckerd used back-to-back doubles and a Mansfield throwing error to tie the game at five runs apiece. The Tritons scored the go-ahead run when Lincoln Dunham scored all the way from second on a sacrifice bunt.

The Mountaineers got a runner aboard in the top of the ninth when Ernie Ruch reached on a fielding error by the second baseman, but were unable to push across a run as Eckerd came away with the win.

Richard Cruz-Sanchez earned the win in relief pitching 4.2 innings on the mound for Eckerd. Cruz- Sanchez struck out six while allowing just one earned run.

Dave Forbes took the loss for the Mountaineers. Senior Joe Candelmo got his third start of the season where he scattered seven hits and fanned seven batters over 6.0 innings of work.

With the loss, Mansfield falls to 7-3 on the season. Tuesday's game marks the Mountaineer's third loss by just one run.

Mansfield opens PSAC East play on Saturday, March 23 when it travels to Kutztown for a doubleheader.
