Millersville Pulls Away in Second Half During Senior Day

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Millersville pulls away from Mansfield in second half

MANSFIELD – The Mansfield women gave all first-place Millersville could handle in the first half but the Marauders pulled away in the second half in an 88-61 PSAC East win at Decker Gymnasium Saturday afternoon.

It was also Senior Day with seniors Kayla Espigh, Emma Lacey, Victoria Lacey and Julia Stevenson honored in pregame ceremonies.

Mansfield trailed 34-17 when just under seven minutes remaining in the first half when the Mountaineers exploded to close out the half on a 18-7 run to close to 41-35 at intermission. Senior Kayla Espigh and Shaleta keyed the run scoring 13 of Mansfield's point over that span.

Mansfield hung tough for the first part of the second half also trailing 52-42 on a layup by Katie Fitzpatrick five minutes into the half. But Millersville would go on a 12-0 run over the next six minutes to put the game out of reach.

Millersville held a 45-32 rebounding advantage and forced 26 Mansfield turnovers.

Espigh led the Mountaineers with 16 points with Heyward coming off the bench to score 13 points including 11 in the first half. Freshman Katie Fitzpatrick had 10 points.

Senada Mehmedovic led three Marauders in double-figures with a game-high 23 points. Auriella Mosley recorded a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds with Mashira Newman adding 14 points.

Mansfield closes out the season by hosting Kutztown on Wednesday.
