UPJ Uses 3-pointers to Pull Away from Mansfield
MANSFIELD –
Jena Matter scored 18 points for Mansfield but Pitt-Johnstown used a barrage of 3-pointers late in the first half to pull away from Mountaineers in a 103-73 PSAC crossover contest Saturday afternoon at First Citizens National Bank Court in Decker Gymnasium.
With the game tied a 19-19 midway through the first half, Mansfield used a 7-0 run to take a 26-19 advantage on a jumper by
Alyssa DeRichie for a 26-19 lead.
Pitt-Johnstown countered with a 10-2 run, taking a 29-28 lead on a layup by Nicole Carman with just under five minutes remaining in the first half.

Maria Kelleher, holding a 32-29 advantage a minute later but the Mountain Cats used a 22-7 run keyed by outside shooting to take a 51-39 advantage into halftime.
Pitt-Johnstown continued its hot outside shooting in the second half connecting on four trey's in the first three minutes to take a 65-47 lead.
Mansfield turned the ball over a season-low 10 times in the game but the Mountaineers were outrebounded 49-30 and connected on just 14-of-29 from the free throw line.
Pitt-Johnstown took 32 3-pointers in the game hitting 13 of them and connected on 14-15 from the free throw line.
Matter led three Mountaineers in double-figures with 18 points with
Katie Fitzpatrick scoring 14 points and DeRichie 12 points.
Jasmine Harper topped four Mountain Cats in double-figures with a game-high 25 points and recorded a double-double with 10 rebounds.
Mansfield is off for the holidays until Jan. 3 when they host IUP.
