CLARION – Jena Matter recorded her second straight double-double, but it wouldn't be enough as visiting Mansfield suffered a 60-46 setback to PSAC West foe Clarion Wednesday night.

Matter scored a game-high 14 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to record her fourth double-double of the season. The senior connected on five field goals and hit four free throws in the contest.

Katie Fitzpatrick was just shy of her second career double-double with 11 points and eight boards. Fitz had a game-high four steals in the game and dished out three assists.

Alyssa DeRichie totaled nine points and five assists.

Jasmine Boyd led Clarion (3-5) offensively with 14 points and nine boards. Hannah Heeter had a game-high 15 rebounds with 12 points to record her third straight double-double of the season.

Emma Fickel was the third Golden Eagle in double-figure scoring with 12 points.

Clarion took an early lead in the game, but a DeRichie 3-pointer put Mansfield (0-10, 0-4 PSAC East) up by one point just under six minutes into the game. The Eagles went on to score eight unanswered points over the next four minutes to lead 16-9.

Clarion led for the majority of the second half, but a late rally capped by a Maria Kelleher trey gave the Mountaineers a 24-22 lead into halftime.

Both sides struggled to connect on field goals in the first half as Mansfield shot just 23.5% (8-35) with Clarion shooting 29.4% (10-34).

The second half saw three lead changes over the first eight minutes as neither team could pull away. The Mountie trailed 42-39 with just over eight minutes remaining in the game, but a 9-0 run by the Eagles put the game out of reach.

Clarion found its shot in the second half connecting on 54.2% (13-24) of field goals while the Mounties shot just 26.3% (10-38) and were 0-14 from beyond the arc.

Mansfield allowed a season-low 10 turnovers in the game while forcing 16.

The Mountaineers host their last game of 2013 on Saturday when they welcome Pitt-Johnstown to First Citizens Community Bank Court at Decker Gymnasium.
