FOR IMMEDIATE RELESE: No. 8 Gannon Outpaces Mansfield 80-49

ERIE – The Mansfield University women's basketball team led No. 8 Gannon University by seven points early in the first half, but a huge run led the Knights to an 80-49 win in PSAC crossover action Saturday night at the Hammermill Center.

Gannon (13-1, 7-0 PSAC) jumped out to a five point lead in the opening minutes of the game, but Mansfield (3-8, 1-6 PSAC) answered with a run of their own. The Mountaineers went on a 14-2 run over a four minute span to lead 17-10 over the nationally ranked Knights. The Mansfield run was fueled by sophomore Megan McSwain who quickly scored 10 points.

Any hopes of a stunning upset by the Mounties were dashed as Gannon used a 28-6 run to close out the half and take a 38-23 lead into halftime.

The scoring deluge continued in the second half as the Knights scored 18 unanswered points in just six minutes to hold a commanding 33-point lead. Mansfield didn't have an answer as Gannon cruised to their 12th straight victory.

Freshman Katie Fitzpatrick scored 10 second half points to record a team-high 12 points for the Mounties. She also brought down eight rebounds and had six take-aways. McSwain finished with 10 points while sophomore Alyssa DeRichie added nine.

Junior Jena Matter recorded a team-high 10 boards.

Gannon's Mollie Sebald scored a game-high 15 points off the bench. Nettie Black and Brittany Batts each added 12 points.

The Mountaineers host Clarion University at Decker Gymnasium on Friday, Jan. 11.
