FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Cold first half dooms Mounties in 71-60 loss to Le Moyne

MANSFIELD – Mansfield's Jena Matter scored a game-high 14 points but it wouldn't be enough to overcome a cold first half as the Mountaineers dropped a 71-60 decision to Le Moyne in a non-conference game Thursday night in Decker Gymnasium.

The teams were tied 4-4 three minutes into the game before Le Moyne went on a 10-0 run over the next two minutes to build a 14-4 advantage.
Alyssa DeRichie nailed a 3-pointer to close the gap to 14-7 a minute later but the cold-shooting Mountaineers would hit just three more shots from the floor over the final 14 minutes of the first half to trail 43-21 at halftime.

Mansfield (3-6) connected on just 5-of-27 shots from the floor (18.5%) over the first 20 minutes while Le Moyne hit 18-of-36 first half attempts.
Mansfield, which shot 40% (12-30) over the final 20 minutes of the game, outscored Le Moyne 39-28 in the second half but the gap was too wide to overcome.

The Mountaineers shot just 30.4% (17-57) from the floor for the game but held a 49-42 rebounding advantage while connecting on 23-of-33 free throw attempts.

Matter also pulled down seven rebounds in addition to her game-high 14 points. DeRichie scored 10 points while pulling down eight rebounds and dishing out three assists. Freshman Katie Yale came off the bench to score a season-high 10 points.

Le Moyne (4-7) had four players in double-figures led by former Wellsboro standout Alex Marple with 13 points. Emily Greer recorded a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds.

Mansfield travels to Mercyhurst and nationally ranked Gannon this Friday and Saturday.
