FOR IMMEDIATE RELEAE: Mounties Comeback Bid Falls Short Against No. 7 Millersville

Brianna Velepec put new life into the Mountaineer offense after a second half goal to cut No.7 Millersville's lead, but the Mansfield University field hockey team came up just short, falling 2-1 in PSAC crossover play at Spaulding Field Friday evening.
Millersville (7-4, 2-2 PSAC East) controlled the offensive tempo in the first half putting up 10 shots to Mansfield's (3-7, 0-4 PSAC East) one. The Marauders gained the advantage on the scoreboard with goals from Samantha Ruane in the 10
th minute and Kirsten Dively in the 22
nd minute.
The Mountaineers' offensive struggles carried over to the second half until Velepec's goal following a penalty corner in the 55
th minute cut Mansfield's deficit to just one goal and lit a spark for the home squad. The goal, which was assisted by
Taryn Schawillie and Kristen Grunza, was Velepec's ninth of the season.
Mansfield threatened to score an equalizing goal with three corners and three shots in the final 15 minutes of the contest, but Millersville's defense wouldn't bend.
Senior keeper
Jamie Twist recorded eight saves in 70 minutes in goal. Schawillie and
Talena Truitt each came up with defensive saves in the contest.
Overall, Millersville held a 16-6 shot advantage and a 15-9 penalty corner advantage.
The Mountaineers host No. 3 Bloomsburg Saturday, Sept. 29 at Spaulding Field with game time set for 11:30 a.m.
