FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Mansfield Outshoots The Rock, but Falls 2-1 in PSAC West Thriller

MANSFIELD - Brianna Velepec scored her team-leading eighth goal of the season against Slippery Rock, but despite Mansfield's offensive dominance, The Rock came away with a 2-1 victory Wednesday evening at Spaulding Field.

Mansfield (3-6, 0-4 PSAC West) totaled 18 penalty corners and 22 shots in the contest, but Slippery Rock's (6-3,3-1 PSAC West) defense didn't back down, allowing just one goal in the 37th minute.

The Rock was aided by a Kaitlin McGinnis goal in the 7th minute and a Lindsay Brown goal in the 35th minute.

The Mountaineers totaled 13 shots on goal with Kayla Grunza, Taryn Schawillie, and Jessi Swingle each recording three each. Kristy Tutorow recorded her third assist of the season on the Velepec score.

Jamie Twist played all 70 minutes in goal, recording four saves for the Mounties. The Rock's Courtney Lee earned the win after making 11 saves in the game.

Mansfield continues its four-game home stand on Friday when it hosts Millersville in PSAC crossover action.
