No. 10 East Stroudsburg Outpaces No. 9 Mansfield

EAST STROUDSBURG – Juniors Taryn Schawillie and Brianna Velepec each recorded goals in the second period, but it wouldn't be enough as No. 9 Mansfield fell on the road to No. 10 East Stroudsburg 5-3 Friday afternoon at Whitenight Field.

East Stroudsburg (3-2, 0-1 PSAC East) took a commanding lead in the first half after scoring three straight goals. The Warriors controlled the offensive tempo during the half, holding a 21-7 shots and 8-3 penalty corners advantage over the Mounties.

Schawillie put Mansfield (3-2, 0-1 PSAC West) on the board in the opening minutes of the second half with her fifth goal of the season. Senior Kristyn Grunza recorded her team-leading sixth assist on the play.

Velepec, the Mountaineers leading scorer, notched her seventh goal of the year on an unassisted effort in the 62nd minute.

The Warriors added goals in the 54th and 66th minutes of the second half to secure their third victory of the season.
ESU held a 32-15 shot advantage and a 15-9 corner advantage for the game.

Freshman Ally Roth scored two goals and picked up an assist for the Warriors in the winning effort.

Mansfield travels to No. 8 LIU Post Saturday for the second game of their weekend trip.
