Taryn Schawillie scored a goal in the first minute of the game but No. 5 IUP's offense was too much as No. 9 Mansfield fell 5-3 on the road in the Mountaineer's PSAC West division opener Tuesday afternoon.
Mansfield (3-1, 0-1 PSAC West) took the lead in the opening minute when Schawillie placed a
Kristy Tutorow pass into the cage to lead 1-0. The Mountaineers surrendered the equalizer in the 9
th minute with a Nicole Bruce score to make the game 1-1.

Brianna Velepec put the Mountaineers back on top after scoring in the 15
th minute via a
Kristyn Grunza assist. Velepec's goal was the junior's sixth of the season while Grunza's assist was her fifth on the year.
IUP (4-1, 2-0 PSAC West) quickly put three goals on the board between the 34
th and 41
st minutes to put the Crimson Hawks out in front 4-2.
In the 44
th minute, senior
Alycia Pici cut the IUP lead to one goal with her successful penalty swipe attempt. However, the Hawks answered back with another goal a minute later to extend their lead to two scores once again.
IUP held a 22-11 shot advantage and an 8-7 corner advantage in the contest.
Schawillie led the Mountie offense with four total shots and three on goal while Pici recorded three shots with two on goal.
Mansfield keeper
Jamie Twist made three saves and shutout the Hawks offense in the final 26 minutes of the game.
The Mountaineers are back in action on Friday, Sept. 14 when they travel to East Stroudsburg for PSAC crossover action.
