EAST STROUDSBURG – Mansfield pounded out 14 hits, including a 4-4 performance by Matt Fisher, and Danny Brown and Andy Young combined for a four-hitter to lead Mansfield to a 4-2 win over East Stroudsburg in the nightcap of a PSAC East doubleheader Friday afternoon.

The win snapped a 12-game losing skid by the Mountaineers.

East Stroudsburg won the opener 3-0 behind a complete-game three-hitter by Brian Ernst.

In the nightcap, Mansfield scored a run off an East Stroudsburg error in the top of the first and the Warriors tied it up in the bottom of the inning on a sacrifice fly by Ernst.

The score would remain tied until the top of the fourth when with one out Joel Worthington singled and moved to third on a double by Jon Taddeo. Dylan Woodworth then singled in Worthington followed by a single by Stephen Stopper to score Taddeo. Matt Fisher then singled in Woodworth to give Mansfield a 4-1 lead.

East Stroudsburg closed the gap to 4-2 when Nico Delerme singled in a run with two outs in the bottom of the sixth. Andy Young replaced starter Danny Brown with two on and struck out the next batter looking to end the threat.

Young retired the side in order in the bottom of the seventh to preserve the win and earn his first save of the year.

Brown picked up his first win of the season scattering four hits over 5.2 innings while striking out five. Young allowed no hits or walks while striking out two over the final 1.1 innings.

Fisher went 4-4 with an RBI to lead Mansfield offensively with Taddeo going 2-3 with a double. Stopper and Brian Milliman each were 2-4.

Delerme had two hits for East Stroudsburg while Keenan Stare took the loss suffering just his second loss in seven decisions on the year.

In the opener, Mansfield's Joe Candelmo and East Stroudsburg's Brian Ernst locked up in a scoreless dual until East Stroudsburg got a run in the bottom of the fifth when Jason Kelmer stole home with two outs in the inning.

The run would prove to be enough for Ernst who held Mansfield at bay throughout the game, scattering three hits and striking out 11 to improve to 4-0 on the season.

Candelmo was also impressive, allowing five hits and striking out seven batters.

Mansfield improves to 7-18 overall and 1-5 in the PSAC East. East Stroudsburg goes to 15-6 overall and 1-1 in conference play.
