SHIPPENSBURG – It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. The Mansfield University women's basketball team came out on the wrong end of a Tale of Two Halves Saturday afternoon, falling 73-60 at Shippensburg University.
Alyssa DeRichie and
Mallory Moore combined to score the first 10 points of the game to give the Mountaineers an early double-digit lead.
DeRichie knocked down two of her three 3-pointers during the 10-0 run on her way to a team and season-high 13 points. The freshman added five rebounds and four steals.
Moore picked up her 5
th double-double of the season recording 11 points and 12 rebounds.
Mansfield led for the majority of the first half, surrendering the lead only twice to Shippensburg. However, Dana Wert's three-point-play in the final seconds of the half gave the Raiders the lead and momentum going into the break.
In the second half, Shippensburg built upon their lead as the Mounties found themselves down 10 at the 12:35 mark.
Mansfield was unable to close the gap, earning their third straight loss.
The Mounties shot 52.2% in the first half, but cooled down in the second to shoot 35.7%.
For the second straight outing Mansfield allowed the opposition to force 30 turnovers.
Sophomore
Jena Matter scored nine points for the Mounties while
Marrysa Moyer,
Julia Stevenson, and
Meredith Hafer each chipped in six.
Junior Monae Baker led four Raiders in double-figures with her game-high 18 points.
Mansfield begins a three-game home stand when it hosts East Stroudsburg University Wednesday, February 8.
