Mountie women drop 64-44 decision at nationally-ranked IUP
INDIANA, PA – Marina Wareham scored a game-high 14 points to lead No. 15 IUP to a 64-44 win over visiting Mansfield in a PSAC crossover contest Wednesday evening.
Mansfield struggled to establish its offense early in the game, connecting on just two of its first 15 attempts from the floor and trailing 22-5 thirteen minutes into the game.
IUP (8-1, 4-1 PSAC) held a 34-15 lead at halftime and would extend its advantage to 54-27 with just under eight minutes to play. Mansfield went on a 12-0 run over the next three minutes to cut the lead to 54-39 on a layup by
Shaleta Heyward at the 4:02 mark but could pull no closer.
Mansfield, which shot 25% from the floor in the first half, hit 31.6% of its shots in the game. IUP held a slim 45-43 rebounding advantage.
Jena Matter finished just short of a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds to lead Mansfield with
Alyssa DeRichie scoring eight points and
Katie Yale seven points.
Wareham was a perfect 6-6 from the floor in scoring her game-high 14 points for IUP with Talen Watson coming off the bench to add 12 points.
Mansfield (3-5, 1-6 PSAC) is off for the Holiday's before hosting LeMoyne on Jan. 2.
