Mansfield Playoff Hopes End in 7-2 Loss to No. 1 Shippensburg

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Mansfield drops 7-2 decision at No. 1 Shippensburg

SHIPPENSBURG – Junior Taryn Schawillie scored her 42nd career goal to tie the score in the 19th minute but top-ranked Shippensburg answered with four first half goals to beat Mansfield 7-2 in a PSAC West field hockey game Saturday afternoon.

The loss, coupled with a Mercyhurst win, ends any PSAC West playoff hope for Mansfield.

Schawillie's unassisted goal was her team-leading 14th of the season and the 42nd of her career placing her one behind MU career scoring leaders Gretchen Reschke (1999-02) and Kristi Swartz (1999-2002) who each scored a school-record 43 goals in their careers.

Mansfield got its other goal of the day off a penalty swipe by Tori Malatesta, giving he sophomore her first collegiate goal.

Junior Kristie Rollman was credited with 20 saves for the Mountaineers.

Shippensburg improves to 15-1 overall and 7-1 in the PSAC West. Mansfield falls to 5-11 overall and 1-7 in the PSAC.
