The first 14 minutes of action saw six leads changes at Cope Hall, but a jumper by freshman

The Mountaineers went into the break leading Cheyney 32-23.
A lay-up by sophomore
Jena Matter in the first possession of the second half put Mansfield up by 11 points again, which would be the largest advantage the Mounties held in the contest.
Trailing by 10 points with 15:17 remaining, the Wolves went on an 8-0 run over the next three minutes to pull within two points of Mansfield.
The Mounties wouldn't yield their lead and built their advantage to a three-possession game. However Cheyney threatened with less than five minutes to play, closing the gap to two points once again.
After swapping baskets over the next three minutes, Wolves' freshman guard Aerie DeJesus completed a three-point-play to trail by a single point of the Mountaineers with :37 to play.
Matter hit a critical jumper with :19 remaining to give Mansfield a three-point advantage. Cheyney had an opportunity to send the game into overtime, but the shot fell short and the Mountaineers came away with the 57-54 victory over their PSAC East rivals.
