BLOOMSBURG –
Mallory Moore and
Marrysa Moyer combined to score 38 points but it wouldn't be enough as Mansfield (5-10, 2-9 PSAC) was edged 84-75 by PSAC East leading Bloomsburg (14-3, 8-3 PSAC) Wednesday night.
The Huskies jumped out to an early lead, scoring the first 10 points of the game. Mansfield closed within seven points, but Bloomsburg built their lead to 15 points with 8:52 remaining in the first half.
Moore's 3-point play with :13 remaining in the half capped an 18-8 Mountaineer run to close within five points of the Huskies.
After hitting the front end of a one-and-one, Bloomsburg went into the break holding a 41-35 advantage
Mansfield cut their deficit to just three points in the opening minutes of the second half, but the Huskies went on a 15-6 run over the next four minutes to lead by 12 points at the 13:29 mark.
Leading by 13 points with 8:22 remaining in the game, Bloomsburg looked as though it would put the game away. However, Moore's 3-pointer and
Kayla Espigh's three free throws spurred a Mountie run to close within three points with just over three minutes remaining.
Mansfield couldn't claim the lead from the Huskies and fell with a final score of 84-75.
Moore led all scorers with 24 points hitting 8-of-20 from the field while knocking down seven-of-eight from the free throw line. The senior also recorded five steals, three rebounds, a block and an assist.
Moyer, a true freshman, scored a career-high 14 points while recording eight rebounds. Moyer has scored in double-figures in six games this season.
Alyssa DeRichie chipped in nine points while
Jena Matter added eight points and a game-high 10 rebounds.
Bloomsburg's Dana Wieller led five players in double-figures with her 20 points. Catherine Noack recorded 19 points while Kayla Oxenrider added 14.
Mansfield is back in action Saturday when the Mounties travel to Cheyney.
