ESU Holds Off Mounties in Wild One Friday

LOCK HAVEN – East Stroudsburg's Lauren Ventrella scored the winning goal in the 64th minute as the Warriors held off upset-minded Mansfield 6-5 in a PSAC crossover field hockey game Friday night in Lock Haven.

East Stroudsburg, ranked No. 10 in the latest NFHCA Division II poll, scored twice in a 30-second span to take a 2-0 ten minutes into the game. Devin Whalen scored her first goal of the season off a penalty corner at the 9:14 mark before Becky Gagliardi picked up her first goal of the year thirty seconds later to give the Warriors a 2-0 advantage.

Mansfield responded with two goals of its own to tie the game nine minutes later. Jessie Wolski scored her first goal of the season on an assist from Talena Truitt off a corner in the 14th minute before Danielle Hackenberg tied the score at 2-2 on an unassisted goal in the 18th minute.

East Stroudsburg responded with two more goals, the first an unassisted goal by Brielle Kessel in the 20th minutes followed by Becky Gagliardi's second goal of the game 13 minutes later to take a 4-2 halftime lead.

Hackenberg got her second goal of the game less than a minute into the second half to close the gap to 4-3 and Taryn Schawillie scored an unassisted goal just over a minute later tying the game at 4-4.
East Stroudsburg retook the lead in the 48th minute when Jamie Robinson scored her first goal of the season off an assist from Gagliardi.

Schawillie got her second goal of the game, and her fifth of the season, in the 54th minute off an assist from Wolski tying the score at 5-5.

Bentrella scored what would prove to be the game-winner nine minutes later with Gagliardi again getting credit for the assist, giving the Warriors a 6-5 lead with just over six minutes to play.

Mansfield put strong pressure on over the final five minutes, getting shots from Kristy Tutorow, Kayla Grunza and Tutorow again with less than a minute to play, but couldn't come up with the tying goal.

Mansfield held a 23-11 shot advantage but East Stroudsburg was lethal hitting six of nine shots on goal.
Mansield's Kristie Roolman and Jamie Twist split time in goal with Rollman credited with one sae and Twist two. East Stroudsburg's Maureen Ordnung had eight saves on the night.

East Stroudsburg improves to 2-3 overall while Mansfield falls to 2-2 on the season. Both Mansfield losses have come on Lock Haven's turf to nationally ranked teams.
The Mountaineers return to Lock Haven Saturday to host C.W. Post starting at 2 p.m.
