Mounties Pound Out 28 Runs in Sweep Over Washington Adventist

SILVER SPRINGS, MD – Joel Worthington improved to 3-0 with a win in the nightcap and Mansfield pounded out 28 runs on 29 hits in a non-conference sweep at Washington Adventist Tuesday afternoon in Silver Springs, MD.

Mansfield won the opener 10-4 and captured the nightcap 18-6 to improve to 12-5 on the season.
In the opener Washington Adventist scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning off two hits, two walks and a hit batter by Mansfield starter Craig Cymerman.

Mansfield tied the score with three runs in the top of the second with Kevin Miller leading off with a double and later scoring on a two-run double by Garrett Creswell .

Creswell later scored on a fielder's choice by Jon Taddeo.

The Mountaineers took the lead for good with three runs in the fifth when Tressler led off the inning with a single and stole second and third before scoring on a RBI single by Mike Hartz. Kevin Miller and Dan Chevalier also both doubled in runs to give Mansfield a 6-3 lead.

Mansfield put the game away with three more runs in the sixth. Glen Jenkins opened the inning with a double and scored, along with Jenkins along with Taddeo who had walked, on a single by Dylan Woodworth. Miller later singled in a run.

Tressler would single in the game's final run in the top of the seventh.

Senior Marc Baker picked up the win working five innings in relief of Cyerman. Baker scattered three hits over that span while striking out four to improve to 2-0 on the season.

In the nightcap, Mansfield erased a 1-0 lead by Washington Adventist with a nine run second inning and never looked back.

Taddeo had a two-run single in the inning followed by a run scoring single by Dylan Woodworth. Mike Hartz knocked in three runs with a bases-loaded double and with two outs, Jon Moser doubled in two more runs.

Mansfield - which had a season-high 18 hits in the game - added four more runs in the fourth, two of them coming on a two-run single by Moser with Tressler doubling in another run to put the game out of reach.

Worthington scattered seven hits over five inning and struck out three in improving to 3-0 on the year. Aaric Ross threw the sixth and Eric Conway the seventh.

Moser went 2-2 with a double and four RBI while Kevin Miller went 3-5 while Woodworth and Mike Hartz drove in three runs each.

Miller was 6-8 on the day with a double and two RBI. Tressler went 5-8 with two doubles and two RBI on the afternoon.

The 18 runs are the most in a game since Mansfield beat Shippensburg 18-7 at Shaute Field last year.

Mansfield will travel to East Stroudsburg on Friday before hosting the Warriors on Saturday at Shaute Field.
