Rosenberger and Candelmo Both Improve to 3-0 in Home Opening Sweep of Clarion

MANSFIELD – Mansfield ace's Eric Rosenberger and Joe Candelmo both had sharp outings to lead Mansfield to a 9-3, 12-1 sweep over PSAC West foe Clarion in the Mountaineers home opener Saturday afternoon at Shaute Field.

Rosenberger scattered four hits over five innings and struck out out three to improve to 3-0 on the season.

Clarion got on the board first with two runs in the top of the third on a RBI single by Scott Berkes and sacrifice fly from Matt Rossi.

Mansfield struck back with six runs in the bottom of the inning, the first three of them coming off back-to-back-to-back run scoring singles by Mike Hartz, Kevin Miller, and Brian Milliman. Mansfield got another run on a bases-loaded walk by Jon Taddeo before Seth Tressler, batting for the second time in the inning, delivered a two-run single for a 6-3 lead.

Mansfield added two more runs in the fourth on RBI's by Jon Moser and Dan Chevalier and one more in the sixth on an RBI single by Chevalier.

Mansfield pounded out 12 hits in the game with Kevin Miller going 3-4 with an RBI and two stolen bases. Tressler was 2-4 with two RBI while Brian Milliman went 2-2 with a double and an RBI.
Andy Young come in relief and finished out the final two innings.

In the nightcap, Condelmo was impressive especially in the early innings retiring the first 11 batters he faced before Matt Rossi doubled for Clarion with two outs in the fourth.

Mansfield scored four times in the bottom of the first with the first three batters of the inning reaching base successfully before Mike Iseneker singled in a run and Moser got hit by a pitch to drive in another. Ernie Ruch walked to drive in another run with Glen Jenkins sacrifice fly leading to the fourth run of the inning.

The Mountaineers added four more runs in the bottom of the fifth on a two-run single by Ruch and RBI double by Jenkins.

Clarion scored its only run of the game in the top of the sixth before Mansfield put the game out of reach with four runs in the bottom of the inning on a RBI single by Ruch and two-run double by Jenkins. Seth Tressler singled in the game's final run.

Candelmo improved to 3-0 on the season going scattering two hits over six innings while striking out three. Marc Baker threw a scoreless inning to close out the game.

Ernie Ruch went 2-3 and drove in four runs while Jenkins was 2-3 with a double and four RBI. Tressler and Miller also doubled for Mansfield with Jenkins doubling twice.

Eric Panko took the loss for Clarion with Scott Berkes driving in the Golden Eagles lone run.

Mansfield travels to Wilmington (DE) University for a doubleheader on Tuesday before hosting Millersville in the PSAC East opener Friday at Shaute Field.
