MANSFIELD – Mallory Moore and Julia Stevenson each scored in double-figures for the Mountaineers, but poor shooting from the field saddled the Mansfield University women's basketball team (1-5, 0-5 PSAC) with a 66-47 loss against Mercyhurst College (3-4, 1-4 PSAC).

After three lead changes, Mansfield found itself leading by one point with just under 10 minutes remaining in the half. However, the Lakers caught fire, going on a 26-5 run to take a 39-19 lead into the halftime lockerroms. Mercyhurst's Lindsay Stamp had three 3-pointers during their run.

The Mountaineers didn't quit though. Trailing by 20 points to open the second half, Mansfield slowly chipped away at Mercyhurst's lead until they were within 12 points at the 7:54 mark in the half. Mansfield would pull no closer and fell with a final score of 66-47.

Ultimately, it was poor shooting from the field that doomed Mansfield. The Mounties shot just 28% from the floor including 16% from behind the arc.

Mercyhurst though, shot exactly 50% from the field and was a red-hot 42% from 3-point land. The Lakers' Megan Hoffman led all scorers with 19 points going seven-of-twelve from the field.

Moore's 16-point effort tonight moves the senior past Kathy Murphy (1992-95) for sixth all-time in Mansfield women's career scoring. Moore has been climbing the scoring record books at an incredible rate this season. Tonight's game marks the third straight contest in which Moore has moved up a spot on the all-time scoring list, passing Lynelle Mosely, Gelnda Oswald, and now Murphy. Sitting at 1,168 career points, Moore has a great chance of making it four straight games tomorrow against Slippery Rock, needing just seven points to move into fifth place.

Moore is equally efficient on defense, ranking seventh in career steals with 182. Moore needs just five steals to move past Leslie Nicotera (1982-85) for sixth all-time.

Stevenson continued to be an inside threat, scoring 14 points while grabbing six rebounds in the game. Stevenson also had a block and a steal against the Lakers.

Freshman Marrysa Moyer led the game in rebounding with seven boards while adding six points. Sophomore Jena matter also scored six points in the game.

Mansfield is back in action tomorrow December 10th when the Mounties host Slippery Rock University at Decker Gym. Game time is set for 2:00 p.m.
