Undefeated IUP Too Much for Mansfield

Senior Mallory Moore netted a team-high 16 points Sunday at IUP.
Box Score

INDIANA, PA – Three Mounties hit double-digit scoring, but undefeated IUP (6-0, 4-0 PSAC) was too much for Mansfield (1-4, 0-4 PSAC) as the Crimson Hawks came away with an 89-67 win on their home floor.

With her 16 points, senior Mallory Moore led the Mountaineers in scoring for the fourth time this season. Moore, who passed Glenda Oswald (1989-1992) for seventh all-time in career scoring yesterday against Cal, now sits at 1,152 career points and is just 15 away from passing Kathy Murphy (1992-95) for sixth in Mansfield scoring.

Mansfield played tough for the opening minutes of the game, finding themselves leading IUP 13-12 at the 14:45 mark in the first half. Senior guard, Monique Webley was an offensive spark for the Mounties, coming off the bench to put up seven points in the first half. Webley ended the game with 12 points, shooting 50% from the field including two 3-point baskets.

Led by junior forward Sarah Pastorek, the Hawks took over the lead and went into halftime leading Mansfield 46-25. Pastorek led all scorers in the game with a season-high 27 points.

In the second half, IUP built their lead to as much as 26, but the Mounties refused to go away. Alyssa DeRichie's lay-up at the 7:10 mark capped a 21-10 Mansfield run to close within 15 points of the Hawks, however the Mounties couldn't close the gap and fell with a final score of 89-67.

Junior forward, Julia Stevenson, extended her streak of double-digit scoring to five games with her 10-point effort against IUP. The Jersey Shore native led Mansfield with six rebounds and two blocked shots. Stevenson leads the Mounties in season rebounding, averaging 6.8 boards per contest and is second in scoring with 14.6 points per game.

IUP shot 45% from the field and had four players score in double figures.

Mansfield travels home to host Mercyhurst College at Decker Gym Friday night in a PSAC crossover tilt.
