SYRACUSE, NY – The Mountaineers led for a majority of the contest, but couldn't maintain their lead late in the second half, falling on the road to LeMoyne College 79-67 in non-conference action. Senior
Mallory Moore led Mansfield in scoring with 18 points on the night.
The Mounties built their biggest lead of the night when freshman
Marrysa Moyer hit a free throw to take an eight-point lead over the Dolphins with just over 13 minutes remaining in the first half. LeMoyne went on an 8-2 run to cut within two points of Mansfield, but the Mountaineers answered back with an 11-5 run of their own to hold another eight-point advantage at the 7:04 mark.
However, the Dolphin's offense began to roll late in the first as LeMoyne took over the lead with 1:55 remaining in the half. Mansfield's Moyer hit two free throws in the last second of the first to give the Mounties a one-point lead going into halftime.
In the second half, Mansfield led by as many a four points, but LeMoyne took the lead with 11:42 remaining in the game and would never relinquish it. The Mounties fell with a final score of 79-67.
LeMoyne's Emily Bayly paced all scorers with 23 points on the night. The Dolphins put two other players in double-figures in seniors Morgan Rowland and Katie Hart with 16 and 15 points respectively.
Moore shot 58% from the field to lead Mansfield in scoring with 18 points. The senior also chipped in four steals, four rebounds, two assists and a block.
Moyer just missed her third double-double of the year, scoring 14 points while bringing in nine rebounds. Moyer and
Morgan Hafer led the team in assists with four apiece.
Junior
Kayla Espigh went four-of-seven from behind the arc to record 12 points against LeMoyne. Espigh leads the team in 3-point field goals made (16) and 3-point field goal percentage (59%) on the season.
