MANSFIELD – Senior guard
Mallory Moore scored the first triple-double in Mansfield women's basketball history while matching her career high in points scored in a game as the Mounties glided to an 85-48 victory over visiting Central Penn Monday night at Decker Gymnasium.
Moore's jumper and 3-pointer capped by
Julia Stevenson's lay-up gave the Mounties a 7-0 lead just over a minute into the game, setting the tone for the night. Moore would go on to score 28 points – matching her career high – while pulling in 10 rebounds and recording 10 steals to be the first woman in school history to pick-up a triple-double all in just 19 minutes of play. Moore shot 61% from the field including two-of-three from behind the arc while hitting a perfect four-of-four from the free throw line to lead all scorers Monday.
Moore, who moved into fifth all-time in Mountie scoring last weekend against Slippery Rock, made a huge leap on the Mansfield career steals list. Coming into today's game, Moore was tied with Leslie Nicotera (1982-85) for sixth all-time in steals. With her 10-steal performance against Central Penn, Moore surpased Courtney Brooks (2004-08) and Cheryl Farabaugh (1995-98) and currently sits in fourth in all-time take-aways with 210.
Stevenson's jumper at the 12:32 mark in the first half gave Mansfield a 10-point advantage over the Knights as the Mounties would go on to hold a double-digit lead for the remainder of the contest. Mansfield continued to build their lead throughout the half, taking a 51-30 lead into the locker rooms at halftime.
Stevenson recorded her second double-double of the year with 17 points and 11 rebounds on the night. A junior, Stevenson has scored in double-digits in all eight games this season and is averaging 14.9 points per contest.
In the second half, Mansfield went on a 15-0 run over the next five minutes to take a commanding 36 point lead over Central Penn. The Knights couldn't stop the Mounties high powered offense as Mansfield rolled to an 85-48 win.
The Mounties 37-point margin of victory is the highest since a 95-49 win over Salem International on Nov. 20, 2010.
Sophomore
