Mallory Moore led Mansfield in scoring with 15 while
Julia Stevenson added 14 points of her own, but it wouldn't be enough as the Mounties fell to defending PSAC champs Edinboro 83-48. The Fighting Scots' Kiara Brown led all scorers with 26 points.
Mansfield played tough against a talented Edinboro squad as the Mounties kept the Scots from extending their lead any more than 10 points over the first seven minutes of the ball game. However, Edinboro, led by Brown, went on a 21-4 scoring run over the next eight minutes to grow their lead to 27.
The Mounties wouldn't go away as Moore spurred an 8-0 run with a field goal and two free throws along with field goals by
Jena Matter and
Marrysa Moyer to close within 19 points with 2:52 remaining.
Both teams shared buckets and Edinboro went into halftime with a 47-24 advantage.
Julia Stevenson led the Mounties at half with eight points and five rebounds. Moore and Matter each had six points apiece for Mansfield.
In the second half, Mansfield shrunk their lead down to 20 on a Moore lay-up with 12:47 remaining, but the Mounties couldn't close the gap as Edinboro walked away with the 83-48 victory.
Moore went 5-7 from the field connecting on five free throws for a team-high 15 points on the day. Stevenson found plenty opportunity in the paint hitting five field goals and four free throws for 14 points. Stevenson also pulled in seven rebounds. Sophomore
Jena Matter chipped in six points and had a team-high eight rebounds.
Edinboro's Brown led all scorers with 26 points, connecting on 9-20 from the field including 4-11 from behind the arc.
Mansfield is back in action tomorrow, November 20
th when they take on Lock Haven University in PSAC crossover action. Game time for the women is set for 1:00 p.m.
