Boxscore

KUTZTOWN – Junior Kristyn Grunza's score in the 57th minute cut the Golden Bears' lead to just one goal, but Mansfield's (3-7, 1-3 PSAC W) comeback bid fell short, dropping a 2-1 decision to No. 8 Kutztown University (7-3, 2-1 PSAC E) Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Bears struck early when Emily Labowitz found the back of the goal off of an Erin Reynolds penalty corner pass to give Kutztown the early 1-0 lead in the 2nd minute of the game.

The Mountie defense rallied behind junior Talena Truitt who made two defensive saves and freshman Jessi Swingle who added another to prevent another Kutztown score before half.

Mansfield's offense struggled to get anything going though, being held to just one penalty corner and no shots in the first half. The Mounties went into the locker rooms trailing 1-0 at half.

The Mountaineer offense appeared to find a spark in the opening minutes of the second half with junior Kristy Tutorow taking two straight shots, but Kutztown would not concede a goal.

The Bears increased their lead in the 53rd minute when Julie Rosenkaimer scored on another Kutztown penalty corner.

Mansfield wouldn't go away though. In the 56th minute, junior Kristyn Grunza scored her 6th goal of the year to move the Mounties within one goal of tying the Bears.

Kutztown would not allow another Mountaineer goal and the Bears came away with the 2-1 victory over Mansfield.

Keeper Kristie Rollman played all 70 minutes in goal for Mansfield recording 11 saves on the day. Rollman was aided by senior Jillian Richards and sophomore Sarah Zwick who each had defensive saves in the second half.

Mansfield is back in action on Oct. 5 when they host Mercyhurst College at Spaulding field. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m.
