Mountie Women Edged by Cheyney 69-74
Mansfield – Junior
Mallory Moore's double-double wouldn't be enough to lift Mansfield past a visiting Cheyney Saturday Evening at Decker Gymnasium.
Mansfield (6-12, 1-5 PSAC East) never trailed Cheyney (5-12, 1-4 PSAC East) in the first half of action and took a 31-30 advantage into the locker room at halftime. However, the second half was a different story as Cheyney took the lead on a lay-up by Nadirah Brown at 17:32 to give the Wolves a 35-33 advantage.
With 3:28 left on the clock Mansfield trailed Cheyney 57-67, but a 9-0 run by the Mounties made it a one point game with 2:05 remaining in the contest. Mansfield could never close the gap, and the Mountaineers fell 69-74.
Mallory Moore recorded her fourth double-double of the season scoring 15 points and bringing down 12 rebounds. Moore dished out seven assists on the evening and was three assists away from recording her first triple-double.
Sophomore
Julia Stevenson had 13 points and recorded six rebounds. Freshman
Megan Touhey put up 12 points for the Mountaineers and had four steals.
Cheyney's Brittany Jenkins led all scorers with 20 points. Nadirah Brown and Christalee Lynch had 19 and 17 points respectively for the Wolves.
The Mounties continued their impressive free throw shooting going 81% from the line. Mansfield out rebounded Cheyney 42-40 on the day.
The Mountaineers start a three game road trip Wednesday when they travel to play Kutztown University. Tip-off is set for 6:00pm.
