MANSFIELD – Mashira Newman led all five Millersville starters in doubl- figures to lead the No. 16 ranked Marauders to a 67-52 win over a pesky Mansfield in a PSAC East contest Saturday afternoon at Pucillo Gymnasium.

Millersville (11-3, 1-1 PSAC East) took a 15-10 lead nine minutes into the game before Mansfield (5-9, 0-2 PSAC East) used a 6-0 run to take a 16-15 lead on Julie Stevenson layup two minutes later. Millersville extended its lead to 31-24 with 16 seconds remaining in the first half before Meredith Hafer nailed a 3-pointer to cut the advantage to 31-27 at halftime.

In the second half, Millersville slowly added to its lead holding a 48-35 advantage with 13:26 to play on a 3-pointer from Newman. But a young Mountaineer team refused to fold using a 11-3 run to close to 51-46 when Mallory Moore hit a jumper with 6:52 to play.

However the Mountaineers could pull no closer, missing their next 10 shots from the floor, in suffering their second loss of the PSAC East season.

Nicole Pender led Mansfield in scoring with 12 points and also had six steals and five assists. It marked the third time this season Pender has recorded six steals in a game. Freshman Kaitlyn Mourer had 10 points and seven rebounds. Moore missed a double-double with eight points and 10 rebounds.

Millersville, which blocked 16 Mountaineer shots in the game, used just eight players in the game with just the five starters scoring points but all five scored in double figures. In addition to Newman, Aurielle Mosley had a double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds while Sophia Waters scored 15 points.

Mansfield will host East Stroudsburg this Wednesday evening.
