West Chester women dial-up long distance in 74-59 win over Mansfield

Julia Stevenson and
Jena Matter combined for 32 points but it wouldn't be enough as Mansfield dropped a 74-59 decision to West Chester in the opening game of the PSAC East season Wednesday night in Decker Gymnasium.
West Chester (10-3, 1-0 PSAC East) got clutch outside shooting hitting 6-of-13 3-point attempts, many of them coming as the shot-clock was expiring.
In the first half, the two teams combined to hit 11 of their combined first 14 shots but Mansfield trailed 20-14 midway through the period when sophomore
Julia Stevenson hit a lay up and ensuing free throw.
After Mansfield closed the gap to 29-24 on a Stevenson layup with 1:31 to go, West Chester closed out the first half with back-to-back 3-pointers by Jillian Keefer and Dominique Adams for a 37-26 halftime advantage.
Mansfield could never pull to within double-digits in the second half.
Stevenson responded to her first start of the season with a career-high 17 points and five rebounds. Matter added 15 points with seven rebounds.
Mallory Moore scored nine points and pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds.
Allison Hostetter led three West Chester players in double-figures with 17 points with Megan Stewart and Alex Lemmon scoring 15 and 14 points respectively.
Mansfield (5-8, 0-1 PSAC East) will travel to Millersville Saturday.
