NEW HAVEN, CT – Sarah Cebry scored off a corner five minutes into overtime to lift Southern Connecticut to a 6-5 win over Mansfield in the second round of the Southern Connecticut Tournament in New Haven Sunday afternoon.

It was a heart-breaking loss for the Mountaineers in a thrilling game that saw four goals and two lead changes over the final 11 minutes of the game including a goal by Mountaineer freshman Taryn Schawillie with 90 seconds remaining to send the game into overtime.

It looked as if Mansfield might pull out a win in overtime as the Mountaineers got off three shots on goal in the first minutes but couldn't squeeze the ball past Southern's Lauren Zarrella.

Cebry scored the game winner on loose ball off a corner minutes later.

After trailing 3-2 at halftime, Mansfield regained the lead when Schawillie scored her first collegiate goal off an assist from fellow freshman Ashley Bronson in the 41st minute to tie the game at 3-3.

Sophomore Alycia Pici gave Mansfield a 4-3 lead with an unassisted goal from the left side of the cage. But Southern Connecticut rallied tying the game again less than two minutes later on a goal by Dieny Charlot and retaking the lead 5-4 when Ann Farrier scored on a tip-in off a corner with less than three minutes to play.

Schawillie scored her second goal of the game just over a minute later off an assist from junior Jillian Richards in front of the goal.

Mansfield drew first-blood in the game on sophomore Kristy Tutorow's goal off an assist from freshman Kylie Davis four minutes into the game. Southern Connecticut tied the game on a goal by Laurie Cockerline 11 minutes later before Tutorow scored her second goal of the game on a rebound off her own tip less than a minute later giving the Mountaineers a 2-1 lead.

Southern took a 3-2 halftime advantage when Cebry and Cockerline each scored goals in the final 10 minutes of the first half.

Mansfield held a slim 18-17 shot and 8-5 corner advantage in the game with sophomore Jamie Twist credited with three saves in goal. Zarrella had 11 saves for Southern Connecticut.

Mansfield wraps up a challenging three-game New England swing that included a season opening game against three-time NCAA Division II runner-up UMASS-Lowell, with a 1-2 mark.

The Mountaineers are off for ten days until they travel to East Stroudsburg on Sept. 15.
