C.W. Post scores five second half goals to down Mansfield 5-2 in PSAC field hockey
MANSFIELD –
Kristyn Grunza's first half goal gave Mansfield a 1-0 halftime advantage but C.W. Post rallied with five second half goals to record a 5-2 win in a PSAC field hockey contest Sunday.
Grunza scored 11 minutes into the game on a hard liner into the right hand corner of the goal and sophomore
Jamie Twist recorded seven first half saves to give Mansfield a 1-0 lead at halftime.
C.W. Post (4-0), ranked No. 6 in the latest NCAA Division II national poll, responded with four goals over a 10 minute span midway through the second half to take what would prove to be an insurmountable lead. Carlee Dragon scored Post first goal at the 44:50 mark and Amanda Nann scored two minutes later to take the lead.
Dragon scored her second goal of the game in the 53rd minute with Helene Bruckner score Post's fourth goal less than two minutes later.
Mansfield cut the lead to 4-2 in the 59th minute when
Jillian Richards scored her first collegiate goal on a penalty stroke before Mia Paltrineri scored the game's final goal with less than five minutes remaining.
Mansfield was outshot38-15 in the game including 27-9 in the second half.
Jamie Twist had a season-high 24 saves at goalie for Mansfield while Cortney Colern recorded 10 saves for C.W. Post.
Mansfield falls to 1-4 on the season and host IUP in the Mountaineers home opener on Tuesday.
