Mansfield has Strong Showing in 72-38 Victory Over Salem International

Salem, WV - The Mansfield University women's basketball team rolled past Salem International 72-38 this Friday in it's first game of the 29th annual Joe Manchin Tournament in Salem, West Virginia.

The Mountaineers faced a familiar foe in Salem International who visited Decker Gymnasium November 20th for the 2010 Comfort Inn Classic. In their last meeting Mansfield won easily with a 94-49 victory. Mansfield proved to be too much once more with a 72-38 win on the road.

Mallory Moore led the way for the Mounties scoring 18 points, bringing down six rebounds and recording four steals. Moore was 7-8 from the free throw line.

Freshman Kaitlyn Mourer had a breakout game against the Fighting Tigers. In just seven minutes of play, Mourer recorded 10 rebounds, five points, two assists, two blocks, and a steal.

Nicole Pender and Jena Matter each had seven points a piece for Mansfield.

Mansfield was 20-32 as a team from the free throw line while holding Salem to just seven total free throws. Tough defense from the Mountaineers held Salem to a 16.2 field goal percentage in the second half.

Brittany Wells was leading scorer for Salem with 19 points.

Mansfield improves to 5-2 on the season while Salem falls to 0-9.

The Mountaineers are back in action Saturday, December 11 when they face off against Central State University. Game time is set for 1:00pm
