M & M Girls Mallory Moore and Jena Matter lead Mansfield to 83-74 win over Lock Haven – Ruth Hermansen earns 100th coaching victory

Mallory Moore and
Jena Matter combined for 45 points to help Mansfield erase a six-point halftime deficit in a 83-74 interdivisional win over PSAC West rival Lock Haven Wednesday evening in Decker Gymnasium.
The win also marked the 100th in the career of head coach
Ruth Hermansen making her the first Mountaineer women's basketball coach to reach the 100 milestone.
The two teams battled throughout the first half before Lock Haven used a 7-0 run to take a 36-28 lead with just under three minutes to play. The Lady Eagles shot a blistering 62% from the floor over the first 20 minutes to take a 38-32 advantage into halftime.
Mansfield regained the lead using a 14-6 run over the first five minutes of the second half to take a 46-44 led on a layup by sophomore
Julia Stevenson with just under 15 minutes to play.
Mansfield was able to maintain a slim lead for the next 12 minutes until the Mountaineers got a key layup from senior
Tegan Atallah followed by a layup by Matter to take a 68-62 lead with three minutes to play.
The Mountaineers expanded that lead to double-digits at 77-66 on a pair of Matter free throws with :50 remaining to cruise home to their fourth win in five games this year.
Moore was the catalyst in the second half for the Mountaineers scoring 10 of her game-high 27 points with eight rebounds and three steals in the final 20 minutes. She has now scored 15 or more points in all five games this season including a season-best 27 against Lock Haven. Matter recorded her first collegiate double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds while sophomore
Julia Stevenson added 10 points and four.
Emily Daugherty topped four Lock Haven players in double-figures with 17 points while Peaches Nesmith recorded a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
Mansfield improves to 4-1 on the season while Lock Haven falls to 2-1.
Mansfield travels to Mercyhurst Monday night.
