FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Field hockey's playoff hopes take a hit in 6-1 loss at Slippery Rock

SLIPPERY ROCK – Slippery Rock scored five second half goals to beat Mansfield 6-1 in a PSAC West contest Wednesday afternoon and threw a wrench into the Mountaineers playoff momentum.

If Mansfield had won its final two divisional games against Slippery Rock and Mercyhurst the Mountaineers would have clinched second place in the West and the final PSAC playoff berth. Now Mansfield will have to beat Mercyhurst in their Division finale at Mercyhurst on Saturday, November 13 and hope IUP loses its season finale to Slippery Rock in order to clinch the final playoff spot outright.

Slippery Rock scored the game's first goal four minutes into the contest on a goal by Rebecca Coleman. Mansfield tied the game at 1-1 three minutes later when Kristy Tutorow scored her team-best 12^th goal of the season.

The scored remained deadlocked until Slippery Rock exploded for five goals in the second half, two of them coming from the stick of Samantha Badaczewski.

Slippery Rock recorded 11 shots to Mansfield's five and had nine penalty corners to Mansfield's seven.

Mansfield extends its losing streak to six games and falls to 5-12 overall and 3-3 in the PSAC West.

Slippery Rock improves to 5-12 overall and 2-5 in PSAC West play.

Mansfield travels to No. 3 ranked Bloomsburg for a non-divisional game on Saturday.
