Mountie Women Down Salem International 95-49 in Comfort Inn Opener

MANSFIELD – Mallory Moore led four Mansfield players in double-figures with a game-high 20 points in a 95-49 win over Salem International in opening round of the Comfort Inn Classic Saturday afternoon in Decker Gymnasium. 

Mansfield (2-0) scored the first 20 points of the game and extended the lead to 41-4 on a layup and free throw by Julia Stephenson 13 minutes into the game. 

The Mountaineers took a 56-20 advantage into halftime and led 83-41 on a Sydnee Reeves free throw with seven minutes to play. 

Moore, who played just 16 minutes, connected on 8-13 from the floor in scoring her 20 points. She just missed her second consecutive double-double of the season with a game-high nine rebounds. Mansfield got 10 points each from sophomores Kayla Espigh and Julia Stevenson along with freshman Jena Matter. Matter also pulled down seven rebounds.

All but one of Mansfield's 16 players scored in the game with 14 players appearing in at least 10 minutes in the game. 

Amber Few led Salem International (0-3) with 16 points. 

Mansfield shot 46% from the floor and out rebounded Salem International 58-40. 

It marks the first time in school history the Mountaineers, who beat Penn State-DuBois 91-49 in the season opener, have scored 90 points or more in each of the first two games of the season. 

In the first game of the day, Notre Dame (3-1) rallied from a five point halftime deficit to beat Le Moyne 58-50. Kealy McNally scored 19 points for Notre Dame while Courtney Coryea topped Le Moyne (0-2) with 15 points. 

Notre Dame will take on Salem International at 1 p.m. Sunday with Mansfield hosting Le Moyne at 3 p.m.
