MANSFIELD – Mansfield field hockey loss to Kutztown University 3-1 at Karl Van Norman Field today with
Kristyn Grunza being honored in pregame ceremonies.
Mansfield took the early lead just under 16 minutes into the first half when Grunza sent a perfectly aimed pass through Kutztown defenders from the outside of the circle to waiting
Kristy Tutorow as she shot it into the bottom middle of the net.
Kutztown responded two minutes later with an unassisted goal from Jamie Koenig as she shot it from eight yards out on the left side of Mansfield's goal keeper,
Jamie Twist. The half ended with no more goals to leave the score at 1-1.
Kutztown took the lead just 44 seconds into the second half when they were awarded a penalty stroke from Samantha Carberry. Koenig finished the scoring off as they increased their lead on Mansfield in the 58th minute of play with a low shot that rolled into the middle of the net.
Twist had nine saves for Mansfield while Kutztown's Emily Falko had seven. Both teams also had defensive saves from Elly Skinner for Kutztown and
Jessie Wolski for Mansfield.
Mansfield drops to 7-5 overall and Kutztown goes to 6-8 on the season.
Mansfield will host Shippensburg University on Thursday, October 28 as their game was earlier scheduled to be played back on the 11th but was postponed due to rain. Due to poor field conditions, the game will be hosted once again, at Karl Van Norman Field at 3 pm.
