Slow start dooms Mansfield in 5-3 setback at Seton Hill
GREENSBURG – Seton Hill jumped out to a 4-0 lead and held off a late Mansfield rally in a 5-3 non-conference win at Greensburg Monday afternoon.
Seton Hill scored twice in the first five minutes, including the opening score 43 seconds into the game, to snap a modest two-game Mansfield winning streak. Seton Hill got two more first half goals by Allegra Ramos and Janelle Hofer before Mansfield finally got on the scoreboard on a goal by
Kristy Tutorow off an assist from
Kristyn Grunza three minutes before intermission.
Seton Hill got its final goal 10 minutes into the second half on a shot by Joanna Pichardo before Mansfield tried to mount a furious late rally. With just over five minutes remaining in the game, junior
Jillian Richards scored off a penalty shot and Grunza added another goal off an assist from
Talena Truitt with two minutes left.
Mansfield actually held a 26-20 shot advantage including a 13-7 advantage in the second half.
Grunza now has 11 goals on the year while Tutorow has nine. Richards, a back, has scored four goals on the season all of them coming on penalty strokes.
Mansfield (5-7, 3-0 PSAC West) travel to IUP on Tuesday for a key PSAC West matchup.
